The Flash is one of DC's main characters but has had a bit of a patchy existence over the years.
Between Barry Allen dying, Wally West taking up the mantle of the Flash, Barry Allen returning from the speed force to Wally West disappearing to bring up his family it's been a bit of a mess so in 2009 the fantastic Geoff Johns decided he would attempt to weave Barry Allen back into the DC tapestry much like he did with Hal Jordan in Green Lantern.
